After learning about Gunter Guillaume, the Stasi spy in Democracy, we decided to read up on the East German secret service. Here are a couple of interesting Stasi facts for you:
- The Stasi ran its own universities, hospitals and elite sports centres.
- In 1989 the Stasi had some 97,000 employees and 173,000 informers in a population of 17million people.
