Creative Community projects offer people the chance to develop their creative arts skills and discover more about The Old Vic.

PLATFORM is our community project for 2010.

We are looking for enthusiastic and passionate people from all backgrounds to take part in PLATFORM. The project will culminate in the production of a brand new play featuring over fifty members of the local community at the end of the year. The play will be performed in The Old Vic Tunnels - a breathtaking new performance space underneath Waterloo Station which has recently housed work by Banksy and was the site of Tunnel 228, a site-specific collaboration between The Old Vic and Punchdrunk in 2009.

The new play will be inspired by the people who live and work in the area and we are aiming to capture a snapshot of life in London 2010. To do this we are holding a series of research and recruitment events under the PLATFORM banner. Each event will feature discussion, creative responses and a chance to find out more about the project. All the material from these sessions will then be given to a team of writers who will then take inspiration from the stories and characters that emerge from these events.

Auditions for the production will be held in August but you can be involved now and contribute to the final piece. Come along to one of our PLATFORM events and have your say.

PLATFORM 1: Hell is a city much like London. Agree?
The Old Vic , Sunday 21 March at 11am.

PLATFORM 2: London is a roost for every bird. Do you feel at home?
The Old Vic, Saturday 15 May at 10am.

PLATFORM 3: Lambeth is angry. Are you feeling the pressure?
The Old Vic, Saturday 29 May at 10am.

Places are strictly limited but can be booked by e-mailing your name, age and postcode to newvoices@oldvictheatre.com

So if you have a passion for performing, or would just like to contribute your thoughts on London life to this exciting new project, come along and have your say.

Branded

Branded by Simon Bent was our biggest community play project to date. It involved over 110 volunteers drawn from young people and members of the community in London. The multi-media piece incorporated drama, film, music, media and physical theatre to create an exhilarating theatrical event that explored the environment, ecology and consumerism. It offered all those that took part a rewarding and inspiring creative experience, including skills and personal development and of course the opportunity to perform on our world famous Old Vic stage. An audience of over 5,000 local people and schools were then offered free tickets to see the show. If you would like to be added to our community mailing list to hear about future projects and how to audition please e-mail newvoices@oldvictheatre.org

'Never have I been so proud in my role as Artistic Director of The Old Vic than I was that night of Somme Theatre. Seeing all of those young people and community members working so well together in something of such quality and ambition was truly inspiring.'
Kevin Spacey, Artistic Director
