Theatre has always been a precarious business as The Old Vic’s nearly 200-year history shows. New work requires a higher level of risk than the tried and tested. It needs investment in creative people and ideas. We also have a commitment to education, outreach in the community and to mentoring the next generation of theatrical talent, all of which are important to us in sharing the magic of The Old Vic with a wider world, and none of which comes cheap. The Old Vic is a charity and is one of the few London theatres with such a prized reputation not to have a regular subsidy. We rely on box office income and support from individuals, companies, trusts and foundations to survive.
If we’re to reach our potential, throw open our doors and turn The Old Vic into an artistic powerhouse, we need to share some of that risk with generous individuals who want to be part of something that is by turns traditional, surprising, smart and adventurous. You’ll be playing your part in ensuring that The Old Vic is at the top of its game. Join in the fun. We think you’ll have a great time. Our aim is to make The Old Vic an indispensable part of London theatre, British theatre and world theatre. With your help we can continue to make cultural history for decades to come.
Please help us flourish and grow by making a commitment to The Old Vic.
