Introduction to directing

Welcome to our Introduction to Directing workshop. This workshop has been designed for GCSE and A Level students taking part in our Schools Club programme, but anyone with an interest in directing is welcome to take part. This workshop will help you to understand what a director does, think about the kind of director you want to be, give you tips and exercises to work with text and you will have the opportunity to create your own director’s concept.

This workshop is broken down into sections so you can complete it in your own time and at your own pace. Our facilitators Jess and Joe have created a short video introduction to each section, after which you will find a creative exercise for you to try at home. You’ll need a pen and paper or a computer to make notes as you go. If you get stuck and need any assistance you can contact us at education@oldvictheatre.com

Remember, this workshop isn’t about getting things right, it’s about your artistic ideas. Good luck and have fun.
