Free tickets for Care Homes
‘Christmas is to be shared is it not?’
Access to a FREE link for our live streamed Christmas show for all UK Care Homes
Matthew Warchus’ big-hearted, smash hit production of Charles Dickens’ immortal classic A Christmas Carol returns to our stage this year, to be performed live from our auditorium and streamed to homes across the world.
We want to bring A Christmas Carol to as many people as possible this year and want to particularly recognise those who are disproportionately affected by the pandemic. We are therefore proud to announce that all UK care homes* will be offered a free link to view the performance so that residents and staff may enjoy the production together.
WHO CAN REGISTER FOR TICKETS?
UK-based residential care homes – this is an opportunity to bring people together over the festive period. You’ll be provided with one free link so that you can bring your residents together collectively to watch on one screen.
When applying you’ll be asked to provide your care home’s care quality commission, care inspectorate or regulation and quality improvement authority number.
IF YOU REQUIRE MORE THAN ONE TICKET
As a registered charity in receipt of no regular public subsidy, we are reliant on ticket sales. We’ve seen a 70% reduction in our income over lockdown. Because of this we are only able to provide one free ticket per residential care home but we’d be incredibly grateful if you decided to purchase additional tickets, which start from £10. You can either book these online or contact the Box Office team at firstname.lastname@example.org.

- WHAT IS OLD VIC: IN CAMERA?
Old Vic: In Camera is a new artistic initiative of socially distanced performances all streamed live from the iconic Old Vic stage with the empty auditorium as a backdrop. Throughout lockdown, we’ve been proud to share acclaimed live performances of Lungs, Three Kings and Faith Healer to thousands of homes across the world, directly from The Old Vic.
These performances are completely live – they aren’t pre-recorded and they can’t be watched again.
Rekindling live performance in this irrepressible 202-year-old venue, albeit with minimal staging and accessible only via camera, is a genuine thrill for us. But this series is both an exciting creative experiment and also crucial in igniting the box office now all our usual channels of revenue have been entirely wiped out and we fight to preserve this beloved theatre for our audiences, surrounding schools and communities, staff, crew, and the myriad of writers, performers and creatives that work with us.
- WHICH PERFORMANCES ARE AVAILABLE?
All performances are available, 12–24 December. Subject to availability. Due to popular demand best availability is now on the matinee performances.
Booking deadline is Monday 07 Dec.

- HOW MANY TICKETS DO I NEED TO BOOK?
You only need to book one ticket per device, even if multiple people will be watching on the same device.
It’s very important to note that you won’t be able to share your performance joining details with anyone, so only people viewing on the same screen will be able to watch with you.
We can only provide one FREE link to individual Care Homes. If you will require more than one link you will need to purchase these additionally.
If you will need more than one link please email email@example.com.
- HOW MUCH ARE TICKETS?
We are proud to be able to offer a free link to all UK care homes so that residents and staff may enjoy the production together.
- HOW WILL YOU BE STREAMING THIS?
- HOW WILL IT WORK?
Once you’ve booked your ticket you’ll receive a confirmation – it’s important you check you’ve received this so we can be sure we have the correct email for you. At least 12 hours before your chosen performance you’ll then receive information on how to watch. You’ll then need to make sure you’re online in time to watch the performance live.
All performances will be live streamed using Zoom, which means you will be able to watch on your phone, tablet or laptop. However you plan to watch, we would recommend downloading the free Zoom app. If you want to link this up to a television screen you will need an HDMI cable.
- CAN I BUY TICKETS IF I DON’T LIVE IN THE UK?
To access a free link to the performance you must be a UK care home. If you would like to buy a ticket please go to A Christmas Carol: In camera
- WILL YOU BE DOING ACCESS PERFORMANCES?
Every single performance will be live captioned and audio described. You will have the option of turning on captioning or audio description in Zoom as needed.
- HOW WILL I ACCESS AUDIO DESCRIPTION OR CAPTIONS?
You can turn captions or audio description on at any time. It’s very important to watch the performance through the Zoom app rather than on your browser to ensure captions and audio description are optimised.
You can turn captions on by selecting the Closed Captions button at the bottom of the webinar and clicking Start Subtitles.
- We recommend you watch the closed captioning in the Normal font size
- If you are seeing gaps between words on the subtitles, adjust the size to be smaller or larger by clicking the arrow next to the CC box
For audio description, press Interpretation at the bottom of the Zoom Webinar and select French (the performances will not be live interpreted – as Zoom does not have an ‘Audio Description’ option here we have to assign this to a language. Audio description will be in English). We recommend you leave original audio on otherwise you won’t be able to hear the performance.

- WILL I BE ABLE TO WATCH ON MY TV?
- HOW WILL IT BE DIFFERENT TO THE PRODUCTION IN THE THEATRE?
Even though we can’t collectively come together in person to experience A Christmas Carol this year, we’ve transformed the production to bring its magic into your home. In addition to making some small changes to the way the production is staged to optimise it for live streaming, we’re also going to be sharing ideas on how to create your festive at-home theatre – homemade indoor snow, mince pies and all.
Unlike the previous In Camera performances, A Christmas Carol will be a full scale production.
