Get Going at The Old Vic
A series of free online workshops encouraging older and younger people to connect, try new challenges and engage creatively.
We are looking for 10 primary schools and 10 community groups for elder community members. Participating groups will take part in three workshops online and will be supported through online resources as they work with industry professionals to create a new piece of music. There will also be opportunities for community groups and primary schools to connect throughout.
PARTICIPATING GROUPS WILL RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING:
- Three free online workshops, or in person where possible
- An opportunity to connect with partner schools and community groups
- A CPD session for teachers and community leaders
- Support throughout from The Old Vic Education & Community team
- A follow up event
- We can also facilitate an introductory Zoom meeting ahead of the workshops for any teachers or community leaders that would like this
Theatre is a powerful tool for social connection and at a time when we are unable to bring people into our theatre, we will join communities together in a partnership which will long outlast the duration of the project.
Applications are now closed.

- THE WORKSHOPS
A creative writing workshop, supporting participants to create their own poem inspired by the theme of kindness. Following this workshop a composer will work with participants, using the poems as stimulus to create a brand new piece of music.
Responding to the piece of music created, participants will take part in a devising workshop to create a short movement sequence using gesture-based choreography.
In this final workshop participants will be given the final version of the piece with music and lyrics. They will take part in a workshop focusing on warm-up techniques and using their voice before working together to learn their brand new song.
A follow up celebratory event, bringing those involved in the project together.
This project will be delivered in accordance with COVID-19 government guidelines and the preferences of participating groups. This means that work can take place in person or online and we will work with each individual group in a way that suits them best – either in person, as a group on zoom or in their own homes via zoom if preferred.
