The Mono Box Sunday 8 September
Were pleased to announce that the next Mono Box event will be on Sunday 8 September. The Mono Box are our new partners and an exciting new resource for actors and directors, with a diverse collection of plays donated by industry experts such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Caryl Churchill and Michael Grandage. This unique collection is open for you to take advantage of, as well as the Mono Boxs numerous monologue feedback opportunities and workshops throughout the year.
After some rollicking workshops in August with RSC Voice Coach, Paul Clayton from Peep Show and at NYTs Epic Stages course, booking is now open for the Mono Boxs September Speech Surgery at Old Vic New Voices. If youre new to The Mono Box, Speech Surgeries are where it all began and are the heart of what they do.
Speech Surgeries give you the opportunity to browse and find new plays in the Mono Boxs collection of 450 plays. You can get advice from the collective on the kind of speech youre looking for and attend a Q&A with industry professionals. If you have a monologue youre working on for upcoming auditions or merely for practice you can choose to show it to a director to get some feedback.
The Mono Box Q&A panel for September includes actors Lloyd Hutchinson, Lucy Briggs-Owen and Graham Turner. With innumerable credits at the National, RSC, Royal Court and in the West End between them, this panel will have unparalleled stories, advice and insight into the industry. It promises to be a lively and exciting end to the session! You can read more about them on our website.
This is how it breaks down:
OPTION A: SPEECH SHOWBACK, PLAY BROWSING and Q&A
We will be offering Speech Showbacks in groups of 6 for one hour. When you are not in your showback session you will have access to the entire play collection and also a place reserved at the Q&A.
The Mono Box will be running three, 1-hour long Speech Showbacks at the following times:
10-11am: Showback Group 1
11-12pm: Showback Group 2
12-1pm: Showback Group 3
This is a great chance to get a speech out of your bedroom and into the ether: youll receive peer feedback from an empathetic audience, and also some pointers from the Mono Box collective, and a guest director. Places are limited for this so we do advise booking early.
OPTION B: PLAY BROWSING followed by Q&A
Join them at any time from 10-1pm to browse the entire collection, read a play, and have a lovely cup of tea. The Q&A will then run from 1-2:30pm.
As always the Mono Boxs team of pros will be on hand to help you find speeches and talk to you about your choices thus far.
Bring your questions and your pals theyd love to hear from you all.
You can book for all our events on the Mono Box website and can tweet them and OVNV to tell us how excited you are. We really hope to see you soon as we blast into peak audition season!
