Today is Giving Tuesday. A day to champion the force of good over greed, following the excessive consumerism of Black Friday. It celebrates this time of year for what it should be; a time to be kind, charitable and compassionate as Dickens teaches us in A Christmas Carol.
Performing as Scrooge at The Old Vic every night I have been touched by the genuine human warmth and goodwill shining out from audiences. It has reminded me of the incredible power of theatre to bring people together across ages and generations and communities. Through theatre we tell stories about lives which are different from our own. Stories which make us cry, laugh, reflect and remind us of what it is to be human.
The Old Vic has been telling these stories for nearly 200 years and now under Matthew Warchus’ Artistic Directorship is sharing them with a wider and more diverse audience than ever. But, as an independent charity with no subsidy it needs your help to continue.
Will you join me in celebrating Giving Tuesday with a donation to The Old Vic?
You will make possible the creation and telling of stories to enhance our experience, foster our understanding of one another and feed the imagination of future generations. What an incredible gift that would be.
