Meet The Old Vic 12 – Ciara McCafferty
On 5 December 2017 we announced The Old Vic 12 class of 2018 to the world. Consisting of writers, directors, designers, producers, composers and even a puppet maker, the group will spend the next year collaborating to create new work throughout our bicentenary year and beyond.
Each week we’ll be getting to know a different member of this talented company through 12 questions – for week four we caught up with Producer Ciara McCafferty.
1. What’s your name?
2. What do you do?
Executive Producer and co-founder of Chatterbox Productions
3. Who inspires you?
Badass Nasty Women – from my granny to Oprah
4. What can’t you live without?
Family/friends, chocolate and travelling
5. Theatre snacks – yay or nay?
Absolutely depends on the show. No one wants loud crunching during a quiet piece but I’ve certainly been known to eat a sandwich for dinner during a show!
6. Your favourite piece of trivia?
Cheese is the most shoplifted food item in the world
7. Last show you saw?
Let The Right One In, Abbey Theatre Dublin – truly stunning across the board
8. One trick of the trade you’ve discovered
‘Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better’ Samuel Beckett
This industry is hard and there is no point pretending it isn’t: there will be plenty of testing times along the way. Put the hours in and try to get the mistakes out of the way as early as possible. Every day is a school day and you will learn something from every single show.
9. Night owl or early bird?
10. Your life story in one short sentence
Belfast girl living in Edinburgh working in London
11. In one year you will have…
Presented my company’s co-pro commission with Youaremine by Abi Zakarian to the world!
