Reaching New Audiences

At The Old Vic, we are passionate about unlocking creative imagination in people of all ages, and encouraging children to begin a lifelong journey with theatre. In addition to our outreach programmes, we commission world class productions for families on our main stage. We believe children should have access to the same high-quality, thought-provoking theatre enjoyed by our grown up audiences.

In 2017, the charm and creativity of Mark Arends’ The Missing Light, a story about finding friendship and hope in surprising places, provided a gateway for younger audiences to experience the power of theatre. Commissioned by The Old Vic and created by Make Mend and Do, this technically sophisticated production combined puppetry with live projection and music.
