SCHOOLS IN CAMERA: PLAYBACK – FAQs

Everything you need to know about booking tickets for the schools IN CAMERA: PLAYBACK performances.

What is In Camera: Playback?

OLD VIC: IN CAMERA is a new artistic initiative of socially distanced performances all streamed live from the iconic Old Vic stage with the empty auditorium as a backdrop. Throughout lockdown, we’ve been proud to share acclaimed live performances of Lungs, Three Kings, Faith Healer and A Christmas Carol to thousands of homes across the world, directly from The Old Vic.

IN CAMERA: PLAYBACK performances are recordings of these OLD VIC: IN CAMERA performances which are streamed at a later date.

Two free IN CAMERA: PLAYBACK performances of Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax will be offered to schools across the globe on Mon 01 and Tue 02 Nov at 9.30am GMT.

Teachers can book for one of the two performances and tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

All performances will be streamed using Zoom, which means you will be able to watch on your phone, tablet or laptop. However you plan to watch, we would recommend downloading the free Zoom app:

WILL IT BE STREAMED IN HD?

We are streaming in HD and our audio output is stereo, but your internet speed will determine the quality of the video footage that you see. Zoom doesn’t buffer (this is what allows Netflix/YouTube etc to always stream in HD) so when your internet speed lowers the quality will drop to reflect that rather than pausing and buffering.

Whilst these are recordings, they are streamed from the theatre which means they are not available on demand – it isn’t possible to pause the stream or watch it later once it’s started.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY 'SEMI STAGED'?

There will be live music, a cast of 11 and minimal lighting and set, with brand new staging to allow this story to be performed live within social distancing restrictions. Not all the puppets will return for this production, but The Lorax will be taking centre stage to make sure you enjoy this unique, live experience.

Captions and audio description

Every single performance will be live captioned and audio described. You will have the option of turning on captioning or audio description in Zoom as needed.

WHEN DOES BOOKING CLOSE?

Booking closes on Fri 29 Oct at 9am BST.

Why are you limiting the capacity?

We are committed to providing a quality and unique experience. Due to restricted staffing, we are able to provide this, including processing bookings and offering a high level of technical support for every single performance, to a limited number of devices across each performance.

HOW MANY TICKETS DO I NEED TO BOOK?

You will only be able to book one ticket for your class.

HOW WILL I ACCESS AUDIO DESCRIPTION OR CAPTIONS?

You can turn captions or audio description on at any time. It’s very important to watch the performance through the Zoom app rather than on your browser to ensure captions and audio description are optimised.

CAPTIONS
You can turn captions on by selecting the Closed Captions button at the bottom of the webinar and clicking Start Subtitles.

  • We recommend you watch the closed captioning in the Normal font size
  • If you are seeing gaps between words on the subtitles, adjust the size to be smaller or larger by clicking the arrow next to the CC box
HOW DO I CHANGE THE SIZE OF THE CAPTIONS?

It’s not possible to edit the font size if you’re viewing using a tablet or phone.

If you’re viewing using a laptop or desktop, to change the size, select CLOSED CAPTIONS at the bottom of the webinar, select SUBTITLE SETTINGS and then adjust the size by using the slider along the top of the window.

AUDIO DESCRIPTION
For audio description, press Interpretation at the bottom of the Zoom Webinar and select French (the performances will not be live interpreted – as Zoom does not have an ‘Audio Description’ option here we have to assign this to a language. Audio description will be in English). We recommend you leave original audio on otherwise you won’t be able to hear the performance.

Does this mean I won't be coming to the theatre?

IN CAMERA: PLAYBACK productions are recorded versions of the live performances – you will not be coming to the theatre to watch this performance. Instead, we will provide you with a unique link for you to watch live via Zoom.
