ABOUT THE SCHEME

The Baylis Director is an annual post that provides one director the opportunity to shadow the Artistic Director and use The Old Vic’s space and resources to research and develop projects. This year’s Baylis Director is Lilac Yosiphon.

Lilac is a writer-director and the artistic director of Althea Theatre. Runner up for the Peter Hall Award 2023, recipient of the inaugural Annie Castledine Award and an MGCFutures Bursary 2021.

Theatre as Director includes: Kaleidoscopes (West End);  I Want to Live, Young Company Director (Stratford East); Kiss Me Quickstep (Derby Theatre); Scenes from RENT (Leicester Curve); Oh What A Lovely War (Leicester Curve/De Montfort University, Leicester); Heroes (The Vaults); The Glass Will Shatter (Omnibus Theatre); Home Sweet Home (Stratford Circus Arts Centre/Jacksons Lane); One Last Thing (For Now) (Old Red Lion Theatre). Theatre as Associate/Assistant Director includes: Mary Page Marlowe, Oedipus, The Real Thing (The Old Vic); The House of Bernarda Alba (National Theatre); Billy Elliot, The Wizard of Oz (Leicester Curve); Chariots of Fire (Sheffield Theatres); Odd and the Frost Giants (Unicorn); Robin Hood and the Major Oak (Derby Theatre). Lilac has directed and facilitated workshops with Graeae, Mountview, Guildhall, RADA and the National Youth Theatre.
