Building intergenerational connections at Christmas

12 Choirs of Christmas supports mental health and wellbeing by partnering community groups for people aged 50+ with primary schools across London to create 12 intergenerational choirs. Each choir will be supported by a musical director and assistant facilitator, and have three rehearsals before they perform their Christmas concert at The Old Vic.

Teachers and group leaders also have the opportunity to attend a musical training session to support their continuing professional development.

Each concert at The Old Vic is free and open to friends, family and the local community.

I heard many seniors talking about how much they appreciated singing with children, and it could be the start of further partnership between the schools/groups. It most definitely promotes wellbeing and good mental health.

It was absolutely fantastic for the children to meet the community group and people from the theatre. It’s developed their confidence and experiences. It was such a great turn out from parents as well and has helped us to further open up theatre to our families.
