Girl from the North Country’s story so far


On Wednesday 12 July, 16 actors and four musicians took to The Old Vic’s stage to transport us back to 1930s Duluth, Minnesota in Conor McPherson’s Girl from the North Country.

As they reach their final performance of the West End transfer at the Noël Coward Theatre, we look back at their journey so far.

1 – 8 February 2017: the first members of the Girl from the North Country Company take part in a workshop at The Old Vic Workrooms in Bermondsey

15 May 2017: the full Company assemble for the first day of rehearsals

12 July 2017: Girl from the North Country has its first preview at The Old Vic

26 July 2017: The show officially opens to critical acclaim

2 August 2017: We release our video of Sheila Atim performing ‘Tight Connection to My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love)’

21 – 22 August: the Company record the Original Cast Recording at Abbey Road studios amidst huge public demand

23 August: Karl Queensborough takes over The Old Vic’s Twitter to take you backstage during a two-show day

29 September: The Girl from the North Country cast recording is released and heads straight to the top of Amazon’s Musical Theatre chart

4 October 2017: The Old Vic announces that Girl from the North Country will transfer to the Noël Coward Theatre on a strictly limited 12-week run from 29 December 2017 – 24 March 2018

7 October 2017: The Company take their final bows on The Old Vic stage

3 November 2017: Casting announced for the West End transfer

29 December 2017: Girl from the North Country has its first performance at the Noël Coward Theatre

11 January 2018: The show opens at the Noël Coward Theatre to rave reviews and widespread critical acclaim

26 February 2018: Mirvish Productions announce that Girl from the North Country will have its North American premiere at the Princess of Wales Theatre from February 2019

6 March 2018: The production receives five Olivier Award nominations:

Tonight this chapter in Girl from the North Country’s story will end, but with the Olivier Awards and a North American production on the horizon, the adventure continues.
