Café and Bar
As we have had to take the decision to close our building in line with the latest government advice, our front of house bars and cafes are temporarily closed. Please do keep an eye on our social media or sign up to our newsletter to keep up to date.
Tucked away in the basement of The Old Vic, Penny is your all-day and late-night neighbourhood café-bar with a heart – and you don’t need a ticket to come inside.
With a passion for ethical production, sustainability and local produce, it’s a place to grab your morning coffee, share a healthy, hearty meal and end your night once all the pubs (and shows) have closed.
Our carefully curated drinks menu includes speciality gins, with no and low alcohol options, craft beers from leading local brewers and spirits selected with sustainability in mind – including a vodka which invests in the future of the snow leopard.
From our sourdough breakfast rolls and warming soups to delicious toasties and sharing boards made from fresh and locally sourced ingredients (and with a third of the menu offering vegan options) there’s something for everyone in our kitchen – pop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner from 8am–11.30pm.
All of our disposable plastic and paper cups, straws and takeaway items are 100% biodegradable.
Our new food menu is designed by London-based café Brown & Green.
Penny is fully accessible via the lift from the entrance on Webber Street.
The Foyer bar is open to the public every day for pastries and hot drinks, access to our box office and bespoke evening cocktails (and you don’t need a ticket to visit
