Welcoming and accessible to all

We aim to be welcoming and accessible to all and are committed to making a visit to the theatre as easy and enjoyable as possible, despite the challenges of our Grade II* listed building. We strive to ensure that everyone who comes through our doors can have the same memorable and rewarding experience.

We host Audio Described, Captioned, British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted and Relaxed performances for every production in our Season. Our free Access Membership allows patrons to use our online seat recommendations to book the seats best suited to their needs at the Access ticket rate.

Building Access

Over the past five years, we have undertaken major improvement works in The Old Vic’s auditorium, front of house and back of house spaces, significantly enhancing physical access throughout the theatre. These upgrades include installing platform lifts both front and back of house, creating step-free access to the stage and the new provision of accessible dressing rooms.

In 2025, we opened Backstagea new hub adjacent to the theatre for creativity, education and community. Backstage marks a step change in The Old Vic’s Access provision. There is step-free access throughout the building, with lift access to all floors, generous wide circulation routes, wheelchair accessible toilets and a space for change.

In 2026, The Old Vic won the Blue Badge Access Award for Best Venue in a Historic Building.
