Welcoming and Accessible to All
The Old Vic aims to be welcoming and accessible to all and is committed to making a visit to the theatre as easy and enjoyable as possible, despite the challenges of our 204-year-old building. We strive to ensure that everyone who comes through our doors can have the same memorable and rewarding experience.
Accessible Performances
We host one captioned and one audio described performance for every main stage production in our season as well as touch tours where patrons can handle costumes and props and learn more about what they are about to experience. We provide discounted tickets and specialised literature, including braille programmes, for every production. Furthermore, in 2015 we upgraded our infrared Sennheiser audio enhancement system in the auditorium for the benefit of hearing impaired patrons.
Building Access
In 2019, we carried out major works to improve access including creating step-free access points to make our Box Office and basement bar accessible for those with mobility issues for the first time in the theatre’s history, and increasing the number of wheelchair spaces in the auditorium.
In 2022, we will further our ambition to make The Old Vic a fully accessible space by beginning improvements to our Back of House spaces with new accessible dressing rooms, a modern wheelchair friendly lift and a step-free Stage Door.
