This is Samuel Pepys. Completely unfiltered.
From his infidelities, to his perversions, to his meetings with the King, to his bunions, Pepys recorded it all in his diary. He had a compulsion to report every minute of his daily life and to examine himself through the pages.
17c splices contemporary dance, spoken word, video and music in this witty, fast-paced and feminist exploration of the tell-all diaries, taking apart Pepys’ character and giving voices to the women in his life – in particular his tragic wife, Bess.
Conceived and directed by Annie-B Parson (Here Lies Love, National Theatre; Lazarus), New York City based company Big Dance Theater makes its UK premiere at The Old Vic.
Presented by The Old Vic in partnership with Dance Umbrella
